The Bangor Region Y has received a special grant to ensure all children are able to experience the magic of summer camp. This grant will help provide scholarships and financial assistance to families at both their Day Camps—Camp G Peirce Webber and Camp Acorn, as well as their overnight camp—Camp Jordan. Please see the flyer attached for more information, and if you have questions, please reach out to their Registration Manager, Maria Robshaw, mrobshaw@bangory.org or call 207-941-2808.

Mary Snow was placed in Hold from 12:45 to 1:00 due to a medical emergency. As a precaution, students and staff were asked to remain in their classrooms in order to keep the hallways empty. Classroom learning continued throughout the Hold, and all school operations have returned to normal.
The safety and well-being of your child is our top priority. We will continue to keep you informed about important concerns at our school.
What is a Hold Action? The Hold Action is used when the hallways in the school need to remain clear due to a situation in the school. Classroom learning will still take place as normal during a Hold, but students may not be able to change classes until after the Hold has been lifted.
Sincerely,
Kristi Lord, Principal

The Bangor School Department is proud to celebrate Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day. Mary Sophia Snow was born in Bangor in 1857. She began her career as a teacher in the Bangor schools and while teaching became the first woman president of the Maine Teachers' Association. After leaving teaching for a career in business, she was elected to the Bangor School Board. Eventually, she would be named the system's superintendent.
She spent 11 years as Superintendent of Schools. In that time she opened Maine's first "normal training school" where new teachers learned the practical, day-to-day skills necessary to be a professional teacher.
Mary Snow was also elected president of the New England Superintendents' Association--and was the first woman to do so. Later, the University of Maine bestowed a master's degree in philosophy upon her.
Eventually she left Bangor for positions in New York City and then Chicago. She returned to New York City, where she died in 1924. In 1926, a new school on Broadway was named after her. Today we celebrate 100 years of the Mary Snow School.
