Dear Parents and Guardians,
Starting on Monday, September 19th, the Mary Snow School will begin offering a variety of extra curricular activities. All activities begin at 3:00pm and go until 4:00pm. Students can either take the late bus home, be picked up by a parent, or walk home*.
The following list of activities will begin during the week of September 19th, 2016.
Homework Club – M/Tu/W/Th
Homework Club is intended to provide students a quiet space to work and to complete assignments after school. Students who attend homework club are to bring work with them and to strive towards completion of their assignments.
Activity Room – M/Tu/W/Th
Activity Room is open to students who have completed their homework and are looking for an academically engaging space. In Activity Room, student may read, work on math fact fluency, or take part in logic games.
Chorus – M
Mary Snow music teacher Kelly Ellis will begin the Fall Chorus session, and rehearsals will run from September to December. All students with a passion for singing and performing are welcome to attend. Students who sign up for chorus may also participate in Kickball Club. Permission slips for Chorus have already been distributed to students.
Kickball Club – M/Tu/W/Th
Run by Mary Snow gym teacher Jon Folsom, Kickball Club will pit teams against each other for the chance to become the Kickball Club Champions! Grade 4 students will have games on Mondays and Wednesdays while Grade 5 students will have games on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Kickball Club will run from the week of September 19th to the week of October 24th.
Math Club – M/Tu/W/Th
Math Club will be offered to students who may need extra help with their math homework. Student may select to go to Math Club, or may be recommended by a teacher. Teachers will be available to do any necessary re-teaching of concepts, and to guide students through the homework problems.
The following list of activities will begin during the week of September 26th.
Wordsmith Club – M
Do you like a challenge? Do you love learning about words? Wordsmith Club will be starting on Monday, September 26th, and will focus on engaging students in a variety of activities to help improve their knowledge of words, use of phonological skills, decoding, and spelling.
STEM Club – W
Does your child have an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math? Interested students will have the opportunity to work with Mr. James and high school mentors from Bangor High School’s STEM Academy. The focus of the club will be centered on water, including a macro invertebrate study from a local stream, using sensor technology to collect data, and engineering water filtration devices. Permission slips for STEM Club will be forthcoming.
Chess Club – M/W
Chess Club is open to all students, experienced, intermediate, or beginner. The goal of Chess Club is to teach the basics and general strategies of the game, as well as to provide a place to play various opponents.
* A Crossing Guard will only be available at Broadway. If your child is walking a different route, he/she will need to be picked up or take the late bus. Please send a note to school if the dismissal plans changes.
